I am a homesick Nova Scotian living in Toronto. I hold an HBA in Art History and History from the University of Toronto and I am also a trained makeup artist. Less than a year ago I launched my own food blog named for my family's Nova Scotian farm. Food has always been a major source of inspiration and comfort for me, but what I did not anticipate was how much I would love shooting food. Food photography has emerged as one of my favorite hobbies. In the past I shunned photography in favor of my paints and pencils, but now I see that it is a completely different exercise all together and a great way to develop your eye for composition. Since launching seafieldfarm.ca, I landed a job as a copywriter for the deal a day site SweetMommyDeals.com and have been regularly contributing to other blogs. I hope to continue cooking, writing and creating for years to come.
What is unique that's not in your bio?
I won a lemon eating contest in the eighth grade. True story!
What's your favorite accomplishment?
Graduating university.
How do you define cool?
Anything that is genuine. If it feels contrived, you're trying too hard.
What is your secret to uncovering trends?
I keep my eyes and ears open and I go with my gut. If I like something I assume someone somewhere will share my view. I can't be that unique.
What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?
There always something new. Fresh eye candy served hot and fresh everyday is something you should never take for granted.
What is your favorite trend?
Our increasing interest in what's in our food and how it got here. I am excited by the advancements that are being made in organic sustainable farming and pleased that so many people are returning to whole foods and ditching the chemicals. These positive trends bring us one step closer to a more intelligent, healthier population and reduces our carbon footprint.
What are your tips for writing a juicy post?
Be yourself and read your work out loud to yourself as if you're performing. If the words don't roll off your tongue start again.
How do you reset to be creative?
I go for a run and have a shower. I do some of my best thinking in the shower.
What inspires or excites you?
Details! I love simple beauty. Food is a constant source of inspiration. It is not man made, it is a form of artwork that springs from the earth spontaneously. Nothing we could ever create can compete with that.
Predict something awesome for 2020?
Another case of history repeating. This could be a bad thing, or a good thing, but if I learned one thing from my history degree it's that we are doomed to repeat the past whether or not we're aware of it. I think it's safe to say that whatever happens in 2020 will have a certain familiarity to it.
